Harting Festivities 2006

Come along and join the Harting celebrations on Bank Holiday Monday May 29th 2006. It promises to be a day packed full of fun, colour and family entertainment. In tribute to its traditional roots, Harting Festivities this year will be celebrating the best of the Harting communities and all things nautical with a theme 'By the Sea'.

There will be music, dancing displays and lots to see and do. Traditional stalls and crafts will be on show, as well as children's activities, a treasure hunt and pirate boats. There will be the ever popular book sale, plant stall, bottle stall and craft stalls as well as the Grand Draw for some great prizes.

Be sure to join in the 'All Things Nautical' Fancy Dress competition with rosettes for all entrants. All entrants meet outside the church steps at 11:30am for admiration and applause and then be part of the Old Club parade at 12 noon.

This year 'The Harting Film', a BBC film released in 1956 to show countries abroad a typical English village, will be available to purchase. Do not miss out on some local characters from yesteryear.

And a 'Grab your barrow and a partner' race: Did you know that at previous Festivities, ladies who 'overdosed' on cooking sherry were carted home? This year we're reviving the tradition! At 3.15 bring your barrow for the ride of your life! Prize for the best dressed wheelbarrow team. Enter today, adults only, via e-mails: e-mail , Maggie Barker giving Team Name and Contact details. ( Note: injuries at your discretion and cost).

Keeping revellers sustained during the day will be a range of refreshment stalls, including a local hog roast, fresh sandwiches, hot dogs, ice creams, candyfloss, toffee apples and teas.

In keeping with long-held custom, the day's events begin at 11am with roll call of the Old Club members and the parade down the Street. All stalls, activities and refreshments then open for business.
