Welcome to the Harting Festivities

We welcome friends and visitors on Monday 25th May 2009 for the 48th Harting Festivities.

After two atrocious years on the weather front, we have centred activities and events in The Street and, as you will see on the following pages, there is plenty for all ages and interests to enjoy throughout the day.

There is a photographic competition open to all ages on the theme "My life in Harting" and a children’s painting competition on the same subject. This year’s children’s fancy dress theme is Alien Encounters, which we hope will inspire out of this world costumes. The Harting Fun Run will commence from the Church and go through to South Gardens. The Dog Show, which proved very popular last year, will take place again with some new classes.

Other animal activities will include an exhibition of dog agility; and you will also be able to ride behind two magnificent dray horses, pulled through the Narrows and round South Gardens.

There is a variety of games and activities: the very popular Nintendo Wii game on a giant screen; a bucking bronco; an inflatable galleon; face painting; and of course lots of stalls and entertainments.

Musical treats will include the Hanging Tree Band, which is a rock, reel and jig duo. There will be samba/Latin drumming, which you are invited to join in, and the Hampshire Cadet Band will accompany the Old Club Parade and service in the Parish Church. There will be an organ recital and a special bell ringing display followed by the opportunity to "have a go".

Harting Festivities would not be such a special and successful event without the hard work and commitment of many people. A very big thank you to my organising committee who have put in a huge effort over many months; and to the very large number of helpers who give their time and skills in the run up to the Festivities and on the day itself.

We are also most grateful to organisations and businesses who have provided financial support, especially our sponsors, Alitex and Picketts & Pursers; those who have donated raffle prizes; and everyone who has placed advertisements in the programme.

The most important thing is for everybody to have an enjoyable day – let’s hope it’s a sunny one too!

Peter Hayman

Chairman

Harting Festivities is organised on behalf of the Harting Parish Council to whom the committee would like to express its thanks for assistance with the event. Proceeds go towards supporting local projects and organisations.
