Letter from the Chairman

Harting Festivities Monday 31st May 2010

Harting Festivities Monday 31st May 2010

Our annual village Festivities will take place on the Bank Holiday Monday at the end of May. Once again there is a varied programme through the day that commences at 11.00am with the historic Old Club roll call and parade.

For those of you new to the area or longer established, it is worth reminding ourselves of the aims of the Festivities, which are “to be an event for the people of the Parish of Harting and its environs that will link with the Old Club celebrations to provide an enjoyable and stimulating day and will raise funds for worthy village projects”.  Every year proves to be an enjoyable and worthwhile event for all ages and this year will be no exception, whatever the weather.

A programme will be distributed throughout the parish a week or so before which will contain all the details of what is happening, when and where. There will be over 30 stalls and attractions, of special interest this year will be a traditional crafts area which, amongst others, will feature a blacksmith and a woodcrafter.

Raffle tickets will be on sale shortly with a first prize of £250 and many other prizes, please support this as it is a great fundraiser. On the day there will also be raffle tickets sold in conjunction with the Mid Hants Hot Air Balloon Club, this will be to win a balloon ride at the mass launch of hot air balloons that will take place from 5.30pm at the War Memorial Playing Fields, we expect there to be about 11 places in individual balloons. Everyone is welcome to come and watch, it promises to be a spectacular sight as they take off over Harting.

Alan Clark (01730 825744) is again collecting good quality books for the book stall, also look out for bottle stall bags that will be dropping through your letterboxes.

The Fancy Dress competition and parade this year is open to children and adults, “Scrapheap Fashion”, an outfit or just a hat made from any recycled materials, judging is taking place at 11.40am. The Dog Show, a not too serious canine competition, is looking for entries (contact Francis Weallans 01730 826888) look out for the posters. Preceding the dog show will be the exciting display of dog agility. Participants for the Harting Fun Run can sign up for the races on the day.

For those of you interested in the history of Harting there will be showings of the 1950’s Harting Film, photo displays, Harting Scrapbooks and also a leaflet guide tour of the Parish Church explaining points of architectural and historical interest.

There will be plenty for everyone to enjoy: music, games, entertainers, bouncy castles, children’s activities, food and drink, pony rides and a wide range of stalls.

As ever, we are grateful to the many willing volunteers who are happy to get involved on the day, if you feel you could contribute some time to assist please contact Sally Bull on 01730 825036.

Let’s hope the weather is as kind to us this year as it was last year, see you there, everyone’s welcome!
