Harting
Festivities Monday 30th May 2011
Our
annual village Festivities will take place on the Bank Holiday Monday at
the end of May. Once again there is a varied programme through the day
that commences at 11.00am with the historic Old Club roll call and
parade.
For
those of you new to the area or longer established, it is worth
reminding ourselves of the aims of the Festivities, which are “to be an
event for the people of the Parish of Harting that will link with the
Old Club celebrations to provide an enjoyable and stimulating day and
will raise funds for worthy village projects”. Every year proves to be
an enjoyable and worthwhile event for all ages and this year will be no
exception, whatever the weather, last year we had an attendance over
2000 people.
A
programme will be distributed throughout the parish a week or so before
which will contain all the details of what is happening, when and where.
There will be over 30 stalls and attractions, of special interest this
year will be a traditional crafts area which, amongst others, will
feature a blacksmith and a woodcrafter; stalls featuring the best of
local food produce; alpacas and traditional games.
Raffle tickets will be on sale shortly with a first prize of £300,
please support this as it is a great fundraiser. On the day there will
also be raffle tickets sold in conjunction with the Mid Hants Hot Air
Balloon Club, this will be to win a balloon ride at the mass launch of
hot air balloons that will take place from 5.30pm at the War Memorial
Playing Fields, some places will be auctioned before take off, we expect
there to be over 12 places in individual balloons. Everyone is welcome
to come and watch, it promises to be a spectacular sight as they take
off over Harting.
Alan Clark (825744) is again collecting good quality books for the book
stall, also look out for bottle stall bags that will be dropping through
your letterboxes.
We
have a theme of the South Downs National Park for our art and poetry
competitions for U10,10-15, adults, all entries will be exhibited on the
day in the Law Room. Entries can be submitted from now and left at
Harting Post Office. The art can be any medium including photography and
the poetry can be any length. Please put your name, phone number and age
category on the back. There will be prizes awarded for the winners.
The
Fancy Dress competition and parade this year is open to children and
adults, "local animals" so we look forward to seeing, deer, sheep,
butterflies etc joining the parade, judging is taking place at 11.40am.
The Dog Show, a not too serious canine competition, is looking for
entries (contact Francis Weallans 826888) look out for the posters.
Preceding the dog show will be the exciting display of dog agility.
Participants for the Harting Fun Run can sign up for the races on the
day, this year features a return of the adult category!
There will be plenty for everyone to enjoy: music, games, entertainers,
dancing, bouncy castles, children’s activities, food and drink, and a
wide range of stalls.
As
ever, we are grateful to the many willing volunteers who are happy to
get involved on the day, if you feel you could contribute some time to
assist please contact me.
Let’s hope the weather is as kind to us this year as it was last year,
see you there, everyone’s welcome
